Cafe des Artistes returns for its 4th season of Maine art news. We are happy to be back again with info on all the openings, shows and art happenings across the state. The Maine Gallery & Studio Guide
The 8th edition of the Maine Gallery & Studio Guide is now out. We are sporting a beautiful matt finish cover with artwork courtsey of the artist Stephen Pace. In addition to the beautiful artwork inside, look for some interesting changes to this years guide. Be sure to pick one up today at all major art venues and studios across the state. Wiscasset Bay Gallery will host an opening reception today for the exhibit “Of Color and Light: A Celebration of Contemporary Paintings”. The reception is from 2 to 4 Saturday afternoon. www.wiscassetbaygallery.com

Portland Museum of Art is also opening a new show today, called “Contemporary Collaborations: Artist and Master Printer.” The exhibit features 35 prints by 30 contemporary artists with Maine connections who have created significant prints in concert with technical specialists at professional fine art print presses. Pieces include some from the museum’s permanent collection as well as on loan from collectors, presses, and the artists themselves. This show can be seen through August 10. www.portlandmuseumofart.org

The Landing Gallery in Rockland just unveiled its seasonal opening exhibit, called “Roots”. It will feature landscape themes by all gallery artists through June 15.

Works by artists of Great-Spruce-Head Island will be on display through June 30 at Handworks Gallery in Blue Hill.

Jonathan Frost Gallery in Rockland has drawings and etchings by Richie Lasansky on display. The show, called “Animal Spirits” can be seen until June 14.

Turtle Gallery offers Fine Art and Contemporary Craft in Deer Isle, and will begin summer hours this weekend.

Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth is showing “Maine Flora – A celebration” thru June 21

The 35th Old Port Festival will be June 1, 11-5pm in Portland. This year in addition to live music, activities and parade there will be a new arts and crafts area. See the best of Maine’s creative economy. For full schedule of events check www.portlandmaine.com

Stadler Gallery in Kingfield will feature the work of Steve Pennisi June 1-30. Opening reception will be June 7 from 2-4 pm

VH: This weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer in Maine, and galleries and museums all across the state are opening shows and beginning summer hours!

AA: That’s right Victor, and the new Maine Gallery & Studio Guide has just been delivered statewide – you can pick up your free copy at most local art galleries and studios.
