RESIDENCY/WORKSHOPS

Flame Bowl, Silk Fusion Workshop at
Deer Isle Creative Workshops, Deer Isle

SILK FUSION WORKSHOP Deer Isle Creative Workshops is offering a unique workshop August 9 & 10 and September 6 & 7- an introduction to SILK FUSION, a new craft medium, also known as “silk paper,” that has dramatic possibilities. Using dyed, unspun silk fibers and borrowing techniques from both felting and papermaking, the lustrous results can be used as either fabric or paper. Silk fusion can be painted, stitched, sculpted, manipulated to create 2- and 3-dimensional “paintings,” used in quilting, collage, book arts, in a computer printer or to create wearable art. The exciting two-day workshop will cover basic as well as advanced materials and techniques including surface design options. Students will create a variety of silk fusion samples, as well as individual projects from unusual postcards, a “mawata” painting, a small molded vessel, a covered notepad or perhaps a design for a piece of wearable art.

Workshops are held at a delightful ocean-side setting and offer lots of personal attention. Two-day workshops are $150 plus a $50 materials fee.

Pre-registration is required. For registration form and lots more information: www.deerislecreativeworkshops.com, artworkshops@gwi.net or contact instructor Suzanne Carmichael at 207-348-2791.
