The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) in Rockport presents Around the House, an exhibition featuring 17 contemporary Maine photographers, at the Lewis Gallery in the Portland Public Library. Organized by CMCA curator emeritus Bruce Brown, the exhibition opens with a public reception from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. during Portland’s First Friday Art Walk on January 6. It will remain on view during regular library hours through January 28.

Comprising nearly 60 images, the show ranges from evocative portrayals of interior spaces, architectural details, and home furnishing, to humorous and poignant depictions of family life. Addressing these familiar subjects, the 17 photographers share their unique visions and offer viewers new and fresh insight to our collective everyday experiences.

Participating artists represent a dozen communities throughout Maine. Those from the greater Portland area include Melonie Bennett, Rene Braun, Daniel E. Davis, Luc Demers, Ben DeHaan, Jon Edwards, Noah Krell, and Kate Philbrick. They join with Ilya Askinazi of Bangor, Rebecca Baumann of South Thomaston, Jeffery Becton of Deer Isle, Thomas Birtwistle of Harmony, Elizabeth Greenberg of Thomaston, Cig Harvey of Rockport, Claire Seidl of Rangeley, Sarah Szwajkos of Rockland and Todd Watts of Blanchard.
