The Farnsworth Art Museum and The Rockland After-School Alliance (RASA) are collaborating to provide an after school photography club for Rockland middle school students at the Julia’s Gallery for Young Artists. This summer, Julia’s Gallery created a digital photography lab, equipped with new iMac computers and cameras, and ran two summer photography intensives taught by mentor artist Deanna Witman, who is now also leading the after school photography program for RASA students. Some of the projects this fall have included creating handmade photo albums, postcards, and three-dimensional photo sculptures and book forms.
The RASA Photography program at the Farnsworth’s Julia’s Gallery for Young Artists will continue this winter. For information about how to sign up, please see http://www.youthlinksonline.org/RASA.html . The Rockland After-School Alliance is a collaboration between Youthlinks and RSU #13 that provides free after school, vacation and summer programming to Rockland area middle school students. Julia’s Gallery for Young Artists is an award-winning, after-school and summer teen arts program at the Farnsworth. Julia’s provides students 13-17 years of age with the opportunity to contribute to their community by creating, curating and critiquing art in a fun and supportive environment.
