Blue Hill Bay Gallery opens season with new Maine artists

Dennis Poirier, Winter Afternoon in Stonington

Blue Hill Bay Gallery opens the season with several Maine artists that are new to the gallery including JoAnne Houlsen, Susan Roux, Bonnie LaBelle and Bertil Whyman. A number of new works of the Blue Hill area were created to help celebrate Blue Hill’s 250th anniversary, including images by Ken Knowles, Mark Haltof and Brian Banks.

For those who didn’t get enough snow this winter, the gallery has some strong winter landscapes, including Winter Afternoon in Stonington by Dennis Poirier, a large oil depicting snow covered houses along the waterfront bathed in an atmosphere of late afternoon sunlight. Other recent acquisitions include 19th and early 20th century landscapes by Samuel Triscott, the first resident artist of Monhegan, and National Academy members Paul Strisik, Don Stone, Frank Morton Rehn, Thomas Nicholas, and others.
