New Era Gallery in Vinalhaven will open “Early Summer 2012” on Saturday, June 23 with an artists’ reception from 4 – 7 p.m. The show will feature paintings by Katharine Cole Hannan and Suzanne Heller, pottery and sculpture by Gail Savitz, and hand printed linens by South Street Linen.
Katharine Hannan’s interiors and landscapes focus on the subtle, evocative qualities of color. Suzanne Heller’s small watercolors illustrate the people and places featured in the book “Adventures of an Italian Food Lover”, on which she collaborated with her sister, as well as island landscapes. Gail Savitz is well known on the coast of Maine for her functional pottery and garden sculpture, both of which are included in this show. South Street Linen will show their summer 2012 scarves, table linens, and clothing.
The Windy Way Barn, located directly behind the gallery, will concurrently feature a retrospective of the work of painter Rhoda Boughton. Entitled “70 and Counting,” the show includes oil paintings from Boughton’s early career to the present.
The exhibition will run through July 11. Early summer gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 – 4 p.m. For more information call 863-9351 or visit neweragallery.com
