Archipelago Fine Arts in Rockland’s major summer show “Edges: David Sears” will open on Friday, June 29 with a reception for the general public from 5 – 8 p.m. David Sears is a seasonal resident of Matinicus Island.
Sears is a visual artist with an extensive career as an educator who is now devoted full-time to making art in a variety of styles and media, including acrylic, watercolor, pastel and painted wood. His current work focuses on wave-tumbled beach stones called “cobbles” and charts that seek to capture the unique character of the water and islands that surround Matinicus. Some paintings in the “Penobscot Bay” series reference works by Jasper Johns, Keith Haring, Brice Marden, Sol LeWitt and Robert Indiana. Edges will run through August 24.
