New Era Gallery opens “Midsummer 2012”

Stephanie Crossman, “Flounder,” knotted netting

New Era Gallery in Vinalhaven will open “Midsummer 2012” with an artists reception from 4-7p.m. Saturday, July 14. The show will feature sculpture by Stephanie Crossman, prints and sculpture by Lida Gordon and monotypes by Michele O’Keefe.  Concurrently, the Windy Way Barn adjacent to the main gallery will feature a solo exhibition of paintings and collages by Katharine White.

Stephanie Crossman works in traditional knotted netting in a variety of materials to create beautifully detailed three-dimensional objects, primarily those found in island environs.  Lida Gordon’s collagraphs, etchings and bronze sculpture focus on the inherent qualities of twine and sticks.  Michele O’Keefe’s monotypes show island boats and harbors from her unique perspective.  Katharine White, who moved to Vinalhaven from New Orleans five years ago, will show her large abstracted land and waterscapes as well as her smaller collages. The exhibition will run through August 1.  For more information call 863-9351 or visit neweragallery.com
