Pemaquid Art Gallery featuring Denise Rankin and Paul Sherman

Denise Rankin, “Lollypops”

The Pemaquid Art Gallery at Pemaquid Point is featuring Newcastle artist Denise Rankin and Damariscotta artist Paul Sherman. Through her artwork, Newcastle artist Denise Rankin celebrates the inglorious – those ordinary items usually overlooked in the frenzy of daily life.  “I appreciate small everyday pleasures,”  she says, “and bring forward in my paintings what’s often only caught in people’s peripheral vision:  a cut tomato, a lacy slip on the floor, old books, fireflies, a gumball machine.” To hold the viewer’s eye she often paints her subject matter oversize.  She likes whimsy and humor in art and sometimes puts a surprise or unusual object in her paintings.

Damariscotta artist Paul Sherman is intrigued by vintage objects and is currently at work on paintings of vintage electronics and string instruments.  Sherman also paints scenes of mid-coast Maine, especially seascapes. He too often finds that his artwork stirs memories in the viewer. The Pemaquid Art Gallery is situated within Pemaquid Lighthouse Park at Pemaquid Point. The gallery is open every day from 10- 5, please visit pemaquidartgallery.com
