George Marshall Store Gallery in York invites the public to an Opening Reception for “Accord VIII,” a pairing of antiquities’ and art, 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. In this eighth rendition of the Accord theme, furniture and objects have been chosen from antiques businesses between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Portland, Maine and paired with contemporary art by selected New England artists. Thomas B. Johnson, director of the Victoria Mansion in Portland co-curated this exhibition with gallery curator Mary Harding. The exhibition emphasizes that good design and craftsmanship transcends through the centuries.
Also showing is “Synonyms” in which ceramic artist Maureen Mills’ new work in clay reveals a process that relates surface design to transitional language. She is the chair of the Ceramics Department at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester and the author of Surface Design for Ceramics.
