Archipelago presents “CRAFTS of the Land and Sea 2”

“Maine Coast Rainy Day” by Valerie McQuillan
Archipelago Fine Arts in Rockland presents “CRAFTS of the Land and Sea 2,” featuring recent work by seven Maine artisans. Artists include Nancy Coleman, who produces stunning limited edition books combining the craft of printmaking and the art of watercolor. “Island Vignettes,” her accordion-folded panorama of 12 panels, features scenes based on images drawn during several island visits over the years.  Connected by a continuous horizon, the panels are printed using photopolymer etching plates and accompanied by Nancy’s text and hand-applied watercolors.

Also on show is the work of Hilary Kahrl, whose contemporary ceramics hold a Shaker-esque ability to function quietly, simply and perfectly.  She creates cake stands, teacup sets, mugs, and all sorts of perfect drinking vessels that feel like warm stones in the hand. These artists are joined by many others of exceptional talent for a fascinating exhibit of Maine craftsmanship.
