Bruce Brown curates new CMCA print show for Lewis Gallery

“Moment in Geologic Transfer” by Sarah Vosmus

The Portland Public Library is opening a new print show in the Lewis Gallery Jan 4. In this exhibition curated by CMCA curator emeritus Bruce Brown, 35 Maine artists use new techniques and materials to expand the definition of fine art printmaking, which in the past has traditionally been limited to editions of etchings, engravings, silkscreens, woodcuts, and lithographs printed on archival paper. These processes are increasingly giving way to one-of-a-kind prints on a variety of surfaces. Contemporary prints can include drawing, painting, monotype printing, encaustic, and digital manipulation, as well as multiple layers of collaged, stitched, or folded paper and even added objects for a 3-D or sculptural effect. The show runs through Feb. 23, for more information visit cmcanow.org
