The University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor will open three new exhibitions on Jan. 18. “Michael Crouser: Dog Run,” shows gelatin silver prints images of dogs as they have seldom been seen before. “Robert Rivers: The Promised Land,” is a dramatic series of drawings rendered in graphite, red pencil, acrylic glazes, oil paint and other media. “Candice Ivy: Honey from the Belly of the Lion,” shows how the artist incorporates both video and sculptural elements to create an immersive, sensory experience for viewers. Stephen Ringle, who has served as the Museum of Art’s Registrar and Preparator since 1984, will retire in mid-April 2013 after 29 years of service and has curated a special selection from the Museum’s permanent collection titled “Steve’s Picks.” UMMA’s winter exhibitions and “Steve’s Picks” will be on display until March 8. Admission is free in 2013 thanks to the generosity of Penobscot Financial Advisors. For more information visit umma.umaine.edu.
