Center for Maine Contemporary Art exhibits “Mentor: 40 Photographers/40 Years”

“Paddling Toward …” by Caleb Charland,

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport has just opened two new photography exhibitions. “Mentor: 40 Photographers/40 Years” is an exhibition honoring the spirit of collaboration between master artists and their students fostered by Maine Media Workshops + College, CMCA’s longtime neighbor in Rockport village. The second exhibition is titled “Caleb Charland: From the Basement to the Backyard.” Charland’s photography springs from a place of wonder, from “somewhere between knowledge and uncertainty,” resulting in images that are at once familiar yet strange. Growing up in rural Maine, Charland spent much of his childhood helping his father remodel their family home. The exhibitions are on view through Sept. 22. For more information visit cmcanow.org.
