Greenhut Galleries in Portland invites the public to an opening 5 – 7 p.m. Thurs. Aug. 1 for an exhibition of work by distinguished university professor emeritus of art, artist, art historian, collector and curator David C. Driskell.  David is a leading authority on African American art and the black artist in American society.  His contributions to scholarship in the history of art include many books and more than 40 catalogs for exhibitions he has curated. David’s paintings are in the collections of major museums throughout the world including the National Gallery of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Portland Museum of Art. The show runs through Aug. 31.   1. I’ve just been recently introduced to David’s work by Victoria Baldwin-Wilson. I am looking forward to meeting him and viewing his work. I am a docent a Bowden art museum and always enjoy meeting artist and getting a direct perpective of their work.
