Isalos Fine Art in Stonington will host an artist’s reception 4 – 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 2 during the Stonington Galleries & Studios First Friday Artwalk. Featured are three recently-completed large-scale etchings by Deer Isle artist Vaino Kola. Vaino Kola settled in Deer Isle after a long career on the art faculty at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. “Deer Isle Suite,” his first etchings from Deer Isle is a series of 3 large etchings featuring wintery forest scenes.These etchings were created using a multi-step process, beginning with a metal plate, onto which Kola drew fine lines and other details that were then etched with acid. After numerous layers of etching, the plate was inked and printed on a press in the Massachusetts studio of master printer Bob Townsend. The etchings will hang through August 11th.
