Artemis Gallery in Bar Harbor invites the public to an opening reception 5 – 7 p.m. Fri. Aug. 30 to present a new group show featuring works by artists Tom Curry, Gregory Dunham and Christopher Monahan. Both Curry and Dunham are contemporary artists who have established their professional careers in Maine. Monahan is a recent graduate of College of the Atlantic, and currently resides at Sweet Pea Farm in Bar Harbor. Curry is well known for his oil paintings and unique use of pastels—made from handcrafted pastel sticks. In his work he creates vibrant, living environments with strong layers of color and form. Dunham is a contemporary realist whose drawings and paintings capture a strikingly photographic quality. Monahan works in oil to capture snapshots of broad or minute images of sea and landscapes from Mount Desert Island, resulting in a fresh dimension of abstract realism. The show will be on display through Sept. 13. For more information call 288-2783.
