The Farnsworth Collective, the museum’s newest membership group, will present a series of fun and varied workshops entitled Studio Nights at the Gamble center. This five-part program will take place every other Monday, October 21, November 4, November 18, and December 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the museum’s Gamble Education Center, at the corner of Grace and Union Streets in Rockland. On five different Monday nights in the fall, be prepared to get creative. A different set of materials will be presented each night and participants can experiment at their own pace. The next workshop will be “Alternative Drawing Techniques with Mark Kelly” Monday, Oct. 21. In this introductory drawing class, the group will do a few quick drawing exercises to loosen up, and then work on some object/still life drawing. Participants should bring an object they love, so that you have some connection to your subject. Together, the class will discuss the difference between looking and seeing, which is key to drawing (or any art making, really). Instructor Mark Kelly will show some examples of different types of drawing through history. The fee for each evening is free for Collective members, $10 for Farnsworth members, and $20 for nonmembers. For more information or to sign up for any or all of the workshops, please contact the Education Department at 207-596-6457 or visit farnsworthmuseum.org.
