“12th Annual Festival of Art” in Belfast

Senior College of Belfast announces the “12th Annual Festival of Art” May 15-18, at the UMaine Hutchinson Center in Belfast.  The four day Festival exhibits the work of 148 amateur and professional Maine artists over the age of 50, including drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, fabrics, jewelry, and woodcarving.  All festival events are free and open to the public, beginning with an artist reception, 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, May 15.  It will include refreshments and a cash bar.  The four-day exhibit will remain open 9 – 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat., and 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. On Friday, May 16, the Belfast Bay Fiddlers will offer a free performance from 7 – 9 p.m. in the auditorium. On Saturday, May 17, the Festival honors well-known painter, Harold Garde, with a presentation of his work by him, a film clip by Dale Schierholt, and a discussion of the paintings by a panel of experts, from 1- 3 p.m., in the auditorium.  The panel includes Dr. Sarah Maline, Associate Professor of Art History and Gallery Director at UMaine, Farmington; Thomas O’Donovan, owner of Harbor Square Gallery in Rockland, Alan Fishman and David Estey, both noted Belfast painters, will moderate the session and encourage audience participation.
