Bangor artists follow “The Art Spirit” of Robert Henri

Over the past year, “Plein Air Connect,” a group of artists, have gathered in Bangor to read and discuss the book, “The Art Spirit” by Robert Henri and to paint throughout northern and eastern Maine. The group is pleased to present paintings by four of the group: Kay Carter, Michael Vermette, Nora West, and Becky Whight. ‘Plein Air Painting – A Beautiful Order Reflecting Peace,’ shows paintings of Monhegan Island, of Baxter State Park, and of Coastal Maine The exhibit will be on display at the Peace and Justice Center from May 16 to June 13. The public is invited to attend the exhibit opening 5 – 8 p.m., Friday, May 16 and to stop by the Peace and Justice Center anytime while the exhibit is up and the Center is open. The exhibit will also be shown at the June 13 ArtWalk. Proceeds from the sale of paintings will be shared with the Peace and Justice Center. The Art Spirit is a collection of letters written by Robert Henri to his students at the Art Students League of New York between 1915 and 1923.
