Tilia Gallery, recently relocated from Blue Hill to Brooklin, presents “Clothes Encounters” by sisters Jill Finsen and Susan Finsen with an Artists’ Reception 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday July 4. The Finsen sisters were inspired by Tilia’s clothing line called “Worn Whites.” Jill Finsen’s oil paintings embody a tension between familiarity and abstraction, drawing viewers in, yet leaving unresolved their placement within the imagined space. For this show she returned to her clothesline series where one can almost smell the clothing drying on a breezy day. Susan Finsen’s mixed media paintings incorporate old clothing patterns and images of dress forms and shirts into her abstract paintings. Her work process is influenced by what she describes as the search for her spontaneous, intuitive, and exuberant 5-year old self. The show runs through July 31. Tilia Gallery is located at 10 Mountain Ash Road in Brooklin. For more information call 781-799-4091.
