Start your weekend early with Third Thursdays at the Portland Museum of Art. The PMA is open until 9 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month with live music, an outdoor bar and refreshments, and special events. Enjoy a warm summer evening in the museum’s sculpture garden, meet new people, and share an artful experience! On Thursday, August 21, listen to jazz by the Stephen Page jazz duo then mix it up with Cocktails & Creatives. This social mixer, in collaboration with AIGA Maine, will give you an opportunity to run elbows with individuals in our creative community. Meet new people, and be inspired.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 5, the 2014 Leonard and Merle Nelson Social Justice Fund Lecture Series at the Portland Museum of Art will host Lucy Lippard, internationally known arts writer, social activist, and curator. Since 1966, Lippard has published 23 books on feminism, art, politics, and multiculturalism. She has received numerous awards and accolades from literary critics and art associations. Lippard will discuss her life and work, which has spanned four transformative decades. “Lucy Lippard: Undermining” is free and a book signing will follow the lecture. Visit portlandmuseum.org or call (207) 775-6148 to make reservations.
