Just in time for the new school year, the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) has opened a family exhibition PMA Family Space: Playing with Collections. The PMA collection includes more than 18,000 objects and is made up of many kinds of art: painting, sculpture, prints, photography, glass, ceramics, and furniture. Families are invited to closely examine objects from the PMA’s permanent collection and to sharpen their looking skills by making comparisons. They can curate their own collections and use the gallery cards to explore the PMA collection and to apply these looking skills to other works of art. Located in the PMA’s McLellan House and based upon play, fun, and curiosity, this lab of hands-on activities and games is designed for families to experiment and create their own art. PMA Family Space: Playing with Collections is on view through February 28, 2015.
