“A Summer Rhapsody,” by Linda Packard
Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth is pleased to announce they are hosting a solo exhibition for artist Linda Packard in collaboration with the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens this spring. Linda Packard: Intimate Views will be on view at the Gardens from April 14 through June 16. There will be an opening reception and an artist’s talk on May 1, from 5–7 pm at their Education Center, which is located at 132 Botanical Gardens Drive, Boothbay. The event is free and open to the public.
Intimate Views celebrates the arrival of spring with Packard’s expressive mark-making, rich and juicy paint, and a cacophony of surprising color like those found in A Summer Rhapsody, a centerpiece in the show. Although Packard is an en plein air painter, many of the vibrant works in the show were created during the bleak months of January and February this past winter. She used memory and sketches made during outings last summer. Packard, who works primarily outdoors from direct observation, is drawn to the intimate small-scale scenes often overlooked in the pursuit of sweeping vistas. Her energetic landscapes hover on the edge of abstraction, yet still embrace the essence of place.
