The Deer Isle Artists Association is pleased to announce the opening of its third show of the 2015 season, “Body of Work.” The show runs through Thursday, June 25, and will feature artists Cindy Bourque-Simonds, Lacey Kellett, David Kofton, Mary Bracy Martin, and David McBeth.
Borque-Simonds creates unusual baskets, using a variety of material, form, and color. Kellet brings an interesting perspective to the exhibit with her current series, Summertime 19/2015. Here, she reflects on the question, “What do women do?” rather than upon Freud’s question of “What do women want?” Kofton considers himself “a voyeur of the relaxed,” and uses a variety of mediums to capture models in unassuming poses. He observes that it is the posed subject or nature that dictates the medium he selects; For potter David McBeth, straight- forward, utilitarian pots form the core of his work. He says “Occasionally I find pleasure in exploring the world of ‘pots as metaphor’. These raku vessels give me the opportunity to express volume, explore surface, and play with fire.”
