DIAA shows “The Nature of Things”

The Deer Isle Artists Association (DIAA) is pleased to present “The Nature of Things” through Thursday, July 9. A Reception with Artists takes place on Sunday, June 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. The show features local artists Leslie Anderson, Arlyss Becker, Rory Beerits, Betsy Braunhut, Judith Felch, Jeri Gillin, Emily Brett Lukens, Alice McKenna, and Cynthia Stroud-Watson.

While utilizing different mediums, all artists will present work that is consistent with the show’s theme. For example, Jeri Gillin uses both texture and color in her weavings to express different perceptions. Utilizing a combination of fibers and found materials from nature, her wall hangings are multi-dimensional representations of the world around us.  Similarly, the work of Emily Brett Lukens also depends heavily upon texture. Utilizing resources from nature to create rubbings on thin papers, these images are then employed to collage and paint mixed media works that represent close-up and far away views of the earth.

The DIAA Gallery is at 15 Main Street, Deer Isle Village. For more information, please call (207) 348-2330.
