Art Space Gallery in Rockland invites the public to an opening reception on Friday July 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. This reception will feature four member artists in the front room, Lori Davis, Bunny Gorski, Judith Herman, and Pamela Hetherly.
Nature has always intrigued and inspired photographer Lori Davis. Perhaps it is how natural light illuminates red rocks from the canyons of the southwest making them glow, or simple patterns in sand or snow created by wind, forming delicate lines and swirls, or the intricate structure of a fiddle head fern unfolding.
Bunny Gorski has been making pottery for 20 years, working clay into organic shapes using Maine clay from Blue Hill Bay as a glaze. She also makes very contemporary clay pieces of a more rigid structure. Her work is quite simple and stands alone without a need for outside enhancement.
Pamela Hetherly’s “Firey,” oil
Generally a representational oil painter, Pamela Hetherly has come to realize that letting go of just enough control may cause something unexpected, and those surprises are often the best part of the painting. She is experimenting with the use of interesting palettes and with capturing values, and welcomes all those happy accidents.
Art Space Gallery is located at 342 Main Street across from the Strand Theater in Rockland. July hours Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.artspacemaine.com.
