April come she will / When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
– Paul Simon
April Café begins with the Spring Exhibitions at UMaine Museum of Art. The photo triptych by David Hilliard, now part of the museum’s permanent collection, stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it reviewed in TIME. Hilliard’s work is amazing to see in person and is now another fine addition to the art of Maine. The story begins below.
April Café sees an uptick in Gallery and Museum openings. Farnsworth is opening “The Wyeths, Maine and the Sea,” Archipelago is opening “Sea & Sky,” Bayview Gallery in Brunswick presents a Spring Show of work by Charles Movalli, Tidemark Gallery has an Opening Reception for Stephen Jane, Greenhut Galleries opens their 7th Biennial Invitational Portland Show, PMA presents “Andrea Sulzer: Throughoutsideways,” Central Maine Clay Artists (CMCA) and the Harlow Gallery team up for MUG SEASON, ”It’s Not So Black and White IV” an annual exhibit opens at Richard Boyd Art Gallery, Poets and Fools Costume Party and Dance at Waterfall Arts, Schooner Gallery has a call for artists, and Michael Shyka will show his colorful florals at Fields Pond Audobon Center.
And finally, here is the sneak preview of our cover featuring Bernard Langlais I have been promising. I have taken Janna Halwick of Carver Hill Gallery’s great suggestion to include the year (so we will all know we are current).
And for our parting image from DADA

Cheers to all,
